Gameplay[edit]

Corpse Party is a linear horror monsteradventure game with some role-playing elements. It is played in a third-person view, top-down perspective. Players are tasked with exploring the haunted school grounds for a means of escape. To fulfill this task, characters must interact with the environment and surroundings such as picking up objects, talking to other characters, and inspecting documents while avoiding enemy-like entities.

The game's story is split into five chapters, each focusing on different characters and featuring multiple endings that are achieved based on the player's in-game decisions: a 'True Ending' required for the game's progression; and several 'Wrong Endings' that are unlocked when the player performs events irrelevant to the main storyline. Characters also possess hit points (HP), which measure how much damage they can take before dying, in some instances leading to a wrong ending. As players progress through the game, they will unlock ten optional 'Extra Chapters', vignettes that focus on the game's side characters and expand the storyline.

Setting and plot[edit]

The plot of the Corpse Party series concerns a group of Japanese high school students who, after celebrating their school's culture festival, are telling ghost stories and perform a ritual. The ritual is supposed to make them feel closer to each other as one of the classmates is moving away. Suddenly earthquake transports them to a dilapidated schoolhouse in an alternative dimension that is haunted by the ghosts of people who have been trapped there. The main playable character is Satoshi Mochida, a kindhearted high school student who is teased by his classmates for his cowardly nature. Three of the other characters are students from Satoshi's class: Naomi Nakashima, Satoshi's childhood friend; Yoshiki Kishinuma, an intimidating yet good-natured student; and Ayumi Shinozaki, the class representative. Rounding out the group is Yuka Mochida, Satoshi's younger sister. The game's antagonist is the red ghost of a little girl who seeks vengeance for her wrongful death.

Blood Covered and Repeated Fear[edit]

Blood Covered, released in 2006, is an enhanced remake and port of the 1996 Corpse Party. It includes more characters, larger maps, updated graphics, and professional voice actors. It was later followed by another enhanced remake, Blood Covered: Repeated Fear, which was released internationally as Corpse Party.

The remake thoroughly expands the plot and setting of the original game. Here, the haunted schoolhouse is named Heavenly Host Elementary School (天神小学校Tenjin Shōgakkō), a fictional Fujisawaelementary school that was torn down following the murders and disappearances of several of its staff and students. In modern-day Japan, the main characters' high school, Kisaragi Academy (如月学園Kisaragi Gakuen), has been built over the elementary school site. The students are transported to Heavenly Host after performing a charm called Sachiko Ever After (幸せのサチコさんShiawase no Sachiko-san), which would supposedly allow them to remain friends for eternity.

In addition to the five protagonists of the original game, Blood Covered introduces four characters to the playable cast: Seiko Shinohara, Naomi's best friend; Mayu Suzumoto, a popular student due to transfer out of Kisaragi; Sakutaro Morishige, Mayu's best friend; and Yui Shishido, the class's homeroom teacher. Blood Covered also includes several characters from other schools who are also trapped inside Heavenly Host and affect the story. Two notable characters are Naho Saenoki, a selfish but helpful paranormalist from Paulownia Academy (桐章学園Kirishō Gakuen) who discovered the Sachiko Ever After charm and came to investigate Heavenly Host; and Yuuya Kizami, a sadistic student from Byakudan Senior High School (白壇高等学校Byakudan Kōtōgakkō) who accompanies Yuka as she is separated from her brother. The red ghost is re-envisioned as a young child named Sachiko Shinozaki who kills the students of Heavenly Hosts in anger over her and her mother's murder.

Book of Shadows[edit]

A sequel to Blood Covered, Book of Shadows features a series of nonlinear chapters that add new twists and backgrounds for various characters and details important to the storyline. The game mostly takes place during the same time the first game did, continuing from one of the 'wrong ends' in Corpse Party, where Sachiko sends the Kisaragi Academy students back in time. For this purpose, she erases their memories except for Satoshi's. He tries in a desperate attempt to dissuade his classmates from performing the charm, but he joins them, not wanting to let them go alone, sending them on alternative course of actions and encountering several supporting victims in Heavenly Host.

The game's prologue, Blood Drive, serves as the set up to the eponymous sequel. Two weeks after escaping Heavenly Host, Ayumi and Naomi go to investigate the Shinozaki estate, Sachiko's birthplace, believing there is hope in reviving their dead friends since Naho and Kou Kibiki's existences were not erased like the other victims. At the estate, Ayumi discovers that she is of the same lineage as Sachiko. Hearing an eerie voice, Ayumi uncovers a magical tome known as the Book of Shadows. Ayumi and Naomi perform a resurrection spell for Mayu, but fail. As compensation for using black magic, the book unleashes its rage upon Ayumi until her older sister Hinoe Shinozaki rushes in and saves Ayumi, at the cost of her own life.

Sweet Sachiko's Hysteric Birthday Bash[edit]

On the day of Sachiko's birth and death, the curse on her weakens and she gets 24 hours to celebrate her birthday as someone closer to the girl she was before her death. She uses the timeloops as established in Corpse Party: Book of Shadows to force all survivors at that point to participate in activities she has set up. Given it's either that or die horribly again, something all are aware that they've already experienced but can't remember in full, they go along with her demands. The game features almost all characters from the previous games and some new ones. While a pseudo-horror spin-off at best, it is part of the storyline, setting up a few details to prepare for Corpse Party: Blood Drive.

As with Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, there is only one extra chapter. This extra chapter takes place during the previous game and is more conventional horror. It tells of Yoshiki's and Ayumi's encounter with four students from Sugatani Senior High School, notably Azusa Takai.

Blood Drive[edit]

Corpse Party: Blood Drive is the direct sequel to Corpse Party: Book of Shadows, and is the first game featuring settings and characters rendered in 3D. The game was released for the PlayStation Vita in Japan in July 2014 by 5pb. The characters are depicted in 3D chibi style, however traditional CG artwork appears during cutscenes, illustrated by Sakuya Kamishiro.[13]

Continuing from the prologue, Naomi manages to save Ayumi and takes her to a hospital. The Shinozaki estate and tome subsequently vanish without a trace. Ayumi had been severely ill for her misuse of the Book of Shadows' black magic. In the hospital, a woman claiming to be a spiritual associate of Hinoe's visits Ayumi. This woman belongs to the Wiccan Institute, an organization that worships spirits. She tells her Hinoe's last wish, which is to regain the Book of Shadows or the world will fall into the abyss. This is partially a lie, as the woman is under threat of other organizations to get Ayumi to find the book, which they wish to use for their own gain.

After being discharged from the hospital two months later, Ayumi returns to Kisaragi Academy where Satoshi and friends give her a warm welcome. However, the absence of their dead friends is a constant reminder of their inevitable reality. A new teacher's assistant, Kuon Niwa, supervises their homeroom. Later, on her way home, a black hooded boy approaches Ayumi and tells her, 'If you reclaim the Book of Shadows and use it at Heavenly Host, those who have died there will be revived.' Ayumi pledges that she will once more take back the Book of Shadows. The trail leads into the previous residence of Makina Shinozaki. To make matters worse, Heavenly Host's curse is expanded by the 'new Sachiko', later named Sachi.[13]

Fan Overtime keeps fans working in critical minutes post shutdown to extend component lifespan, dropping temperatures by 7゚C in just ten minutes after the computer turns off. 'Safe & Stable!' Asus z77 extreme4 drivers. New Fan Off consists of a switch that disables fans should temperatures drop below a manually or automatically set level for effective power consumption.

In January 2017, the game was ported to Android and iOS. The port contained various improvements to the balance of the game and improved loading times. In addition to that, the game also supports a cloud saving feature.[14]

Corpse Party: Another Child[edit]

A spin-off manga that takes place during the events of Corpse Party. With their school, Satsukiyama Academy (皐月山学園Satsukiyama Gakuen), shutting down for good, the students of a small town were heading for different directions in life, not until they decide to perform the 'Sachiko Ever After' charm swallowing the entire class to Heavenly Host Elementary, along with a mysterious girl's spirit. In order to get out, they must track and get rid of the spirit.

Corpse Party 2: Dead Patient[edit]

The game takes place five years after the events of Corpse Party Heavenly Host Arc, implied to be the consequences of the Book of Shadows' powers starting to bring about the end of the world by allowing the spirit realm and real world to start to converge together. The setting takes place at Amare Patriarcha Crucis Hospital (文月大付属・慈愛十字 (パトリアーカル)病院Fumizuki Daifuzoku Patoriākaru Byōin, 'July University Patriarchal Hospital') fallen into a dark abyss. Patient records and clinical charts are scattered all over the hospital, with zombies and a bizarre SWAT team roaming through the hallways. An amnesiac girl, Ayame Itou, wakes up on an operating table and encounters the dark happenings around her.

Someday a group of classmates will perform a charm at night after school—the Happy Sachiko charm. This paper doll ritual is meant to make them stay friends forever, but performing it incorrectly will lead them to be dragged down into a dilapidated phantom of Tenjin Elementary School, which had been torn down years ago. Trapped until they can reunite and perform the charm correctly, the students will have to solve the mystery of the haunted school in order to make it out alive.
Before that ill-fated event, however, the friends led ordinary lives. Corpse Party: Missing Footage reveals an insight into the students' lives on the day before they were thrust into a waking nightmare.

Being a big fan of the Corpse Party RPG series that was released on the PC, PSP, I was expecting more of a quick bloody horror mini episode.
[The Story]
More of a prequel to the High school RPG of what happened, so not much is to be expected in this 11 minute episode.
[Sound]
More over, the original voice actors that voice acted for the PSP are here again, but not the full cast which disappointed me.
[Character]
Not all of the characters listed in the manga/game were shown, which wasn't too bad, but still would've been a good view to see.
[Enjoyment]
If you are a big fan of the series, you may enjoy it, but overall it's more of an introduction to it
Overall
Good art, original voice actors, not full cast, I see a potential for it to become a good series; hopefully in the future.

It's just a typical prequel continuation of the manga, although it's in video format. It's basically just an a approximately 12 min video. Since I already read the manga and doujinshi, it's no surprise to me what's going to happen. Truthfully, I had doubts watching this video, it may not look that appealing but the horror of it got to me. For first time watching it, it reminded me of one of those cliches saw movies or asian movies that supposedly are gore and bloody. Considering the fact that the victims are elementary students. The characters have no development or whatsoever likewise the plot, only the important thing is that a group of students are going to be stuck in a horror school in a matter of fate and time. While spending there life with carefree and no care at all, no one knows what awaits in that fated moment. Honestly, it was so-so, because of the way it began, it was given a time of where before the horror began. I may not been a big fan of this, but now I know how the story really goes. There is not much to right here since it's just a small prequel of the plot, but I must say to fully understand the story, read the doujunshi first before watching the missing footage.

Corpse Party is a survival horror video game series Oddly enough, the first one was made with the RPG maker software and came out in 1996. The follow up titles didn't start seeing release until over a decade later in 2008. Most of the games were developed by Team GrisGris, with 5pb joining them after the second released game. The series has had four manga and two OVA adaptations, both OVAs being handled by Asread. Let's take a look at the first one, Corpse Party: Missing Footage, and hope it's better than the other adaptation we've seen this month or at least as hilarious in its awfulness.
Story:
Our tale opens with a group of children being murdered by an androgynous figure with long, dark hair. You know, because building up to that kind of thing is over-rated. After a minute or two of that our scene shifts to a guy in the bath when his naked sister walks in on him and starts insisting on washing him. Which is, incidentally, the most horrific scene in the entire thing. After that we switch to a girl groping her friend in various ways while questioning her about a guy. Because that's what girls do when they have sleepovers. They grope each other and talk about hunky boys. Actually, as someone who has been to a few girls' slumber parties, I can confirm that only one of these is likely to happen and it's not the one you might wish it was. After that the scene switches to two new characters talking on the phone about the upcoming culture festival. And then it switches to two different students talking about the same basic thing. And.. that's pretty much everything. So, the narrative goes from child murder into scenes of various characters we know nothing about talking about the culture festival and hunky boys.
Now, in all fairness this was bundled with a limited edition release of one of the spin-off games. So, it is very much intended for fans of the game series and not for people like me who are only vaguely aware that the games exist. However, there's still the major underlying question of what purpose the thing actually serves. How exactly do these four snippets of mundane conversation that feature completely stilted dialogue add anything to the 'happy' Corpse Party world of child murder? Now, the purpose is probably to give the audience a basic peek at the premise and introduce the characters. So, it's basically an extended trailer. However, there is a major problem with it on that level and it comes down to one aspect..
Characters:
Yes, the problem is with the characters. We only get a couple minutes with each pair of characters and what we get of them is so absurdly stilted and divorced from reality that the chance of connecting with any of them on any level approaches zero. You would almost think the characters had been written by someone who has never had any friends and lives as an isolated NEET but thinks they understand people because they've seen a lot of bad comedies.
These are the types of one-dimensional twits you would expect to see in a terrible comedic anime like Baka to Test rather than in a work of horror where you're supposed to get invested in them and their survival. If anything, watching the OVA will just destroy your investment rather than enhance it. Unless, possibly, you're rooting for the main cast to die horribly in which case the bath scene will almost certainly contribute to that.
Art:
The art is mostly decent, albeit kind of standard. The biggest issue, in this case, is with the gore in the first scene. It uses that ridiculous convention of having the blood spurt everywhere as though it was connected to a high pressure hose of some kind. Furthermore, it has nothing but blood even when an area gets stabbed where other fluids really should be coming out of the wound. Granted, medical accuracy would have made that segment a lot more disturbing and that would be terrible in a horror piece. Wait, what?
Sound:
The voice acting is pretty average. They did get some good actors with impressive records like Sawashiro Miyuki and Nakamura Yuuichi but they really don't give them much to work with. The music is also pretty standard. It's not bad, but it's not anything you're liable to remember or even notice much.
Ho-yay:
The ho-yay factor is going to be a 4/10 for the non-consensual groping during the sleepover scene. Although the effect is diminished somewhat by the fact that the girl doing it never shuts up about guys while she's doing it. Dating tip, don't talk about other people during foreplay and always ask before you touch your partner there. With there being any part of their body.
Final Thoughts:
This OVA is just stupid. It's made up of loosely connected scenes showing characters interacting in ways that just make it apparent that the writers don't know how human beings work. The scariest scene is almost certainly not intended to be scary and the OVA as a whole just contributes nothing of value to anything. You might be interested in it if you're a huge fan of the games. For anyone else at all, I can't even suggest giving it the ten minutes of run-time it has. This isn't terrible in a hilarious way like Galerians. It's just terrible. 2/10. Next week, horror anime month ends with a look at Zombie Loan.

Anthology of deleted scenes from the anime and nothing less. My review is not shorter because this site doesn't let me., and other scenes that show us the relationships between the cast we already know after the anime. some of them have a lot of fanservice like the ecchi yuri with seiko and naomi, and other are too cold and don't have enough to satisfy some fans, like the ayuma and kishinuma scene
